Challenge and Innovation Forum begins

The Challenge and Innovation Forum activities began yesterday with the participation of 100 inventors from 38 countries to showcase their innovations.

The forum is a unique event in the region. It includes a number of competitions, events, and interactive science programmes aimed at motivating and encouraging inventors, from all over the world.

The opening ceremony of the event was attended by the Minister of Sports and Youth, H   E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali; Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani and Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi and other senior officials.

The event, held at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), is organised by the Qatar Scientific Club in the framework of the events of Doha Capital of Culture in Islamic World 2021.

Speaking to Qatar Radio, the Minister of Sports and Youth said that participation by inventors was exceptional. “About 6,000 inventors from around the world were filtered by international arbitrators until the number reached 100.”

“Today, 100 inventors are present in the final competitions, including Qatari youth, and some of their inventions have entered manufacturing stage. Our youth have made many achievements in international forums,” he said.

The Minister of Sports and Youth also emphasised that there is no doubt that youth are the most effective creative energy for innovation. He also took a tour of the forum to see the participants' inventions.

Head of the Scientific Activities and Events Department at Qatar Scientific Club, Sheikh Ali bin Salman Al Thani, said that 100 inventors from 38 countries are showcasing their innovations at the forum.

He also said that the Challenge and Innovation Forum is the first-of-its-kind in the Middle East and it includes two competitions, an international innovation competition (an exhibition for innovators to showcase their innovations) and in the second competition,  which is of 48 hours duration, participants are competing for a new innovation.

The forum is organised in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar University, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, Qatar Development Bank, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) and the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA).
