With high-tech acquisitions, Qatar prepares for World Cup security: Report

Doha: With the 2022 FIFA World Cup just months away, Qatar is all prepared to secure the tournament, stated a report by Breaking Defense, as it praised the country's security preparations.

A digital magazine on the strategy, politics and technology of defense, Breaking Defense said that: “With the 2022 FIFA World Cup just months away, Qatar has taken delivery of its first batch of Eurofighter Typhoons, the latest major acquisition by the Gulf nation that will help beef up security for the competition”.

The Typhoons will be part of the Joint Typhoon Squadron, and will provide air security for the World Cup while its ongoing from November 20 to December 18.

The report added that Qatari airspace will be safeguarded by Italian firm Leonardo’s low-level air surveillance and defense system, composed of a network of Kronos radars and associated command and control centers. The company is responsible for all the Air Traffic Management electronics and meteorological equipment for the Hamad International Airport, securing the arrival of passengers from players and crowds to the World Cup.

The report also covered the contracts and recent investments made by the Qatari Navy to secure its territorial water. It added that the Qatari law enforcement bodies together with their multiple partners from across the world have trained for such events and are well prepared when it comes to crowd control, added the report about management on ground.
