Ambassadors of Argentina and El Salvador visited the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, yesterday and met with General Manager Prof Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti to strengthen cultural ties.
Argentine Ambassador H E Marcelo Gilardoni said: “We keep working with Katara Cultural Village to find ways of cooperation between Argentina and Qatar.
We have good relations with Katara Cultural Village since it opened and the opening of the embassy. My predecessors were pretty much in touch with the General Manager.”
He also mentioned the inauguration of a giant mural by Argentine artist Martin Ron at Katara on Saturday. Called the “Ocean in the Sky,” the mural can be seen at Building 41, opposite the waterfront of Katara. This is the second mural that Ron has created in the country, the first was the Oryx mural located outside Building 40.
H E Gilardoni also praised the pioneering cultural roles of Katara as it brings people together, and its efforts on art and culture services. Meanwhile, Ron who’s been a muralist for 20 years said that his new mural which portrays a whale while overlooking the Katara beach is a message for all in protecting the planet from pollution. “This is the biggest mural in Katara with the concept of environment, a reflection about what’s happening on the planet, with the animals,” Ron explained. Moreover, Ambassador Gilardoni disclosed: “This time we’re trying to find another ways of cooperation, we might be bringing Argentine band for the World Cup. We look forward to more ways of cooperation with the centre and we’re very thankful for the assistance and help they have given us up to today.”
El Salvador Ambassador H E Milton Alcides Magaña Herrera, meanwhile, lauded the efforts Katara has been making “to be the centre of the culture in the world.” He also extended his well wishes to the Cultural Village for its future plans.
