Katara to host Korea-Arab Friendship Caravan

DOHA: Cultural Village Foundation-Katara in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Doha and Korea-Arab society will organize the Korea-Arab Friendship caravan, on Friday October 9 at Katara-Drama theatre.

The program for this year include two types of cultural dance. Traditional Korean Dance by Gyeonggi Provincial Dance Company and B-Boy Performance “Marionette” by Expressio Crew.

The traditional Korean dance by Gyeonggi Arts Centre’s sole dance company, which was established in 1993, with the aim of developing Korea’s traditional dances and unique regional cultures and promoting them oversees.

While Marionette dance that will staged by the world-class B-Boy team Expression Crew offers an innovative and exciting experience that is unique from other B-Boy performances as its grand choreography   harmonizes with various music. Expression Crew was the first ever B-Boy team to win a world competition from Asia.

This was announced during a joint press conference, held by the general manager of the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti and the ambassador of the republic of Korea in Doha, Park Heung-Kyeong, on Tuesday at Katara.

Since 2008, the Korea-Arab Friendship Caravan aims to promote mutual understanding and communication between Korea and Arab countries. The Caravan offers various Korean cultural programs combining tradition and modernity to effectively introduce Korean culture and arts to the Arab region.

Addressing attendees, the general manager of Katara said: “Organizing similar events is aligned to the strategy of the Cultural village of bridging the gabs amongst cultures and get introduces to other civilizations and Valuable opportunity to strengthen Korea-Arab relations. Katara has hosted a number of Korean events that had grabbed significant turnout such as the Korean cultural week in the year 2103, and the Korean kite festival.”

For his part, the Korean envoy to Doha, said: “This is a yearly event hosted in Qatar, UAE and Lebanon where visitors will get a glimpse about Korean cultural and enjoy traditional food. Korean and Arab cultures share, many similarities that mainly reside in shared food recipes and high sense of family values and respect to the elders.
