Qatari sailors impress at home regatta

The Sail Qatar competition was held in the following classes: Optimist, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Laser Standard, 470 and Hobie 16. The five-day Qatar International Regatta organised by Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation (QSRF) ended yesterday. Qatar Match Racing Cup was the second event of the regatta. Sailors from 14 countries took part in the Sail Qatar, while five countries were represented at the Qatar Match Racing Cup.

Doha: Qatari sailors bagged a rich haul in the Sail Qatar the international regatta which concluded here yesterday.

Mohammed Al Mohannadi and Saleh Ali Telfat topped in Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial categories, while Waleed Al Shershani finished second in the Laser Standard.

In the five day regatta organized by Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation, Qatari sailors made a clean sweep in the Laser 4.7 with Abdurrahman Aljinah and Maryam Al Sulaiti winning the second and third place.

In Laser Radial, Mohamed Al Mohannadi Ali of Qatar finished second, while Ali Bohamad of Kuwait came third.

In Laser Standard, Keerati Bualong of Thailand emerged on the top, while Bob Good of New Zealand finished third.

In 470, the Thai pair of  Navee Thamsoontorn and Nut Butmarasri clinched the top prize, while Singapore’s Dawn Liu and Joan Poh came second, followed by Patteera Mee Yousam Sen and Nichapa Wai Wai from Thailand. 

In Hobie 16,  Keith Debrasse and Liza Acadsiki’s secured the first place followed by Carlos Rocha and Maxence Boggi’s team.  Hassan Al Baker and Mohamed Ismail’s team came third.

In the Optimist,  Voravong Rachrattanaruk of Thailand and compatriot Suthon Yampinid made a clean sweep winning the top two places. 

In Qatar Match Racing Cup, one of the two events which formed part of the regatta, Tat Soh’s Team overcame stiff competition to win the event. 

The Singaporean Tat Soh’s Team pushed Russian Sergey Musikhin’s Team to second spot, while Ben Jamia team from Bharain came third and Omar Alnnar team from Bahrain had to settle for the fourth spot. 

President of Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation Khalifa M Al Sewaidi gave away the prizes to the winners.
