Umm Qarn’s King Shalaa, with Soufiane Saadi in the saddle, clinched End Of Season Cup title to wrap up Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) 2021-22 season yesterday.
The victory for the four-year-old also completed an outstanding day for trainer Alban Elie De Mieulle, who bagged hat-trick of victories in all the three major races during QREC’s 55th and final Race Meeting at Al Rayyan Racecourse. Abdulaziz Jassim Al Boenain, Manager of Al Uqda Complex Department, presented the trophies to the winners.
Ahead of the last race, Noora Racing Limited’s Quepos, also ridden by Saadi, claimed the Al Utouriya Cup to secure second victory of the day for De Mieulle.
The trainer bagged his first major victory when Umm Qarn-owned Sealine raced to Al Mafiar Cup triumph, winning the 1600m race for Local Purebred Arabians by half-length.
Earlier, Al Jeryan Stud’s Al Lusail under Tadgh O’Shea was victorious in the 1600m Conditions for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds after registering a half-length win.
Jockey Alberto Sanna also ended the season in style as he registered back-to-back wins on the final day. He rode Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah-owned Swift One to Thoroughbred Handicap victory after leading Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s Come Quick to win in Thoroughbred Handicap.
Also yesterday, Mohammed Jaber Al Khayarin’s Bolton Abbey earned victory in 1400m Thoroughbred Handicap by half-length after making a late surge under Szczepan Mazur.
The last meeting of the season started with a victory for Al Gaiah Racing’s Hamdi in a thrilling 1850m Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate race before Saeed Nasser Al Qadi’s Mount Snowdon sealed Novice Plate for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds title.
