Doha, Qatar: Qatar Foundation’s Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future has announced that registration is now open for the second edition of the Earthna Summit, scheduled for April 22–23, 2025, in Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The Summit, themed ‘Building Our Legacy: Sustainability, Innovation, and Traditional Knowledge,’ will bring together local, regional, and international stakeholders to discuss some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. This year, the event will showcase Qatar’s commitment to promoting sustainability, particularly in hot and arid environments, while emphasising the country’s rich cultural heritage and innovative approaches, according to Earthna’s newsletter released yesterday.
Interested participants can register for the Summit through the Earthna website.
The Summit aims to explore how combining traditional knowledge with modern technologies can help inform sustainability practices, shaping a more resilient and inclusive future. Experts, government officials, policymakers, businesses, multilateral organisations, and civil society members will gather to collaborate and contribute to these goals, according to the newsletter.
In addition to inspiring talks and discussions, the Summit will feature the Earthna Prize, which celebrates projects, individuals, and systems that contribute to the preservation, integration, adaptation, and adoption of ancestral knowledge in addressing contemporary environmental challenges. 12 finalists have been selected from over 400 submissions representing over 100 countries. The four winners, who will be announced at the Summit, will receive a $1m prize to further advance their work in the categories of Water Resource Management, Food Security, Sustainable Urbanism, and Land Stewardship.
The Earthna Village, located in Baharat Msheireb, will also host a community-driven exhibition, offering engaging activities for all ages. The Earthna Village is open to the public and will feature a central stage for a series of talks and discussions, led by a diverse group of experts and innovators, to foster dialogue on sustainability, innovation, and traditional knowledge. The exhibition’s agora section will also feature practitioners who will lead brief, interactive discussions with the audience about their exhibits.
Earthna as a policy research and advocacy centre that supports a coordinated approach to environmental, social, and economic sustainability for future prosperity.
The inaugural Earthna Summit in 2023, themed ‘Building New Sustainability Pathways for Hot and Arid Environments,’ successfully brought together over 500 participants for plenary speeches, panel discussions, roundtables, and workshops. The second edition promises to build on this success, strengthening Qatar’s role as a hub for global sustainability discussions.
