Doha, Qatar: Integrated efforts between the public and private sectors are required to ensure the sustainability of resources and smooth supply chains for food security, said an official.
“No party can achieve this goal alone, but rather requires joint and harmonious cooperation to ensure food security,” said Chairman of the Organising and Supervisory Committee of the 12th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) 2025 Yousef Khalid Al Khulaifi.
He stressed the importance of integrating efforts between the public and private sectors to achieve the goal of sustainable food security in the country.
Al Khulaifi, who is also Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality, was speaking at a conference to discuss ways to enhance strategic partnerships with the aim of shaping the future of food security in Qatar.
The conference was held at AgriteQ which is running at Katara until February 8, 2025.
He also stressed the importance of investing in scientific research and modern agricultural technologies, saying, “Investing in scientific research and modern agricultural technologies is the cornerstone for building a sustainable food system.”
Al Khulaifi touched on the importance of benefiting from successful regional experiences, explaining, “Successful regional experiences, such as the UAE Food Security Strategy, constitute a model to be emulated in facing climate and economic challenges. These strategies provide us with practical and implementable insights in our local context.”
Meanwhile, a forum on camel production and breeding for sustainable development was launched yesterday at the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition 2025 (Agriteq).
The exhibition is running at Katara until February 8, 2025. The forum, a two-day event, will highlight the importance of agricultural research in improving breeds and productivity, which contributes to achieving food security.
The first day of the forum also discussed the efforts made to develop feeding and breeding systems in line with climate challenges and environmental changes.
Speaking at the forum, Hamad Saket Al Shammari, Director of the Agricultural Research Department at the Ministry of Municipality, stressed the importance of the major role of camels in facing food challenges, noting that Qatar pays special attention to camels as the animal of the future.
He explained that the forum represents a qualitative shift in camel studies, as it contributes to enhancing scientific research to achieve Qatar Vision 2030.
Al Shammari said Qatar pays special attention to conducting scientific research, as the forum is an opportunity to open new horizons for cooperation between experts in the field of livestock. He said that Qatar has always been a pioneer in supporting international efforts to achieve food security and combat poverty. Head of the Animal Research Department at the Agricultural Research Department at the Ministry of Municipality Huda Al Dosari, praised the distinguished presence of participants in the Forum.
She noted that camels have special characteristics that make them an important element in the food security system, especially in light of climate change and high production costs. Al Dosari added that the forum aims to highlight the importance of camels as a sustainable animal resource, and exchange experiences on nutrition and genetic reproduction, in addition to modern innovations in animal production. She also called for finding practical solutions to the challenges facing global food security.
The second day of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition 2025 concluded successfully and with a great turnout for the various activities that highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector in achieving food security and sustainable development. It provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge between local and international experts in various fields, which clearly reflects Qatar’s future vision in achieving food security and sustainable development, and highlights the role of Qatar in advancing sustainable development in the fields of agriculture and livestock.
