Doha: A giant mural by Argentine artist Martin Ron was inaugurated at the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara on Saturday evening, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Doha.

The Argentine artist took the facade of Building No. 41 opposite the waterfront of Katara to create his huge mural called "Ocean in the Sky".

Commenting on the occasion, General Manager of Katara Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti told Qatar News Agency that Katara always chooses the main building facades to implement works that have artistic value, noting that this time the facade of Building No. 41 overlooking the seashore was chosen in an indication of the environmental damage that marine organisms are exposed to due to throwing plastic bags in the sea.

For his part, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Qatar HE Marcelo Gilardoni said in a statement to QNA that this is the second artwork implemented in cooperation with Katara after the Oryx mural, which was also created by artist Martin Ron, noting that its message is expressive in urging the preservation of the marine environment.

Ambassador Gilardoni praised the pioneering cultural roles of Katara, its work to bring people together, and its great efforts in the service of art and culture.

Martin Ron told QNA that this is his second artwork in Katara after the Oryx mural which celebrates the Qatari heritage in an Argentine eye, adding that the place chosen for the new mural is expressive as it overlooks Katara Beach, and it sends a message to everyone to protect the planet from pollution.

Noor Shahdad, Corporate Communications Manager at QTerminals which sponsored the mural, said the sponsoring this artwork is part of the company's strategy in support of environmental sustainability and spreading environmental awareness among the public, adding that the company is keen on this in its management of Hamad Port and other ports managed by the company, through the use of the latest environmentally friendly technology equipment such as locomotives, cranes and others for preserving the marine environment.
