Doha: Luxurious Italian cruise ship Costa Mediterrenea has arrived in Qatar, marking its maiden voyage to the country.

The mega ship arrived with 3,700 visitors onboard follows the signing of an agreement with Qatar National Tourism Council and Costa Cruises in September 2018.

The fleet flagship Costa Diadema will offer 16 calls to Doha during its seven-day 2019-2020 winter programme.

Costa Cruises is among the first few cruise companies in the world to start regular cruises in the Arabian Gulf back in 2006. Majority of Costa's guests usually come from Italy, France, Spain, Austria and Switzerland.

A week back Doha Port received two mega cruise ships - MSC Lirica and Mein Schiff - simultaneously carrying approximately 6200 visitors. Another luxury cruise ship, the largest one to arrive at Qatar shores, Queen Mary 2 had brought more than 3700 visitors.
