DOHA: The World Police Cross Country Championship will be held at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) in Doha tomorrow.
The championship that will feature more than 200 male and female runners from 27 countries, will be hosted by the Qatar Police Sport Association (QPSA).
“We’ve been preparing to host this competition for a long time and I’m happy to say everything is ready. We’ll do everything to make it a big success,” said QPSA President Brigadier Khalid bin Hamad Al Attiyah.
Qatar will announce their final squad today and are expected to field a strong team.
Alex Kibet, who recently won a hat-trick of titles at the Qatar Athletics Federation’s Cross-Country Championship, is likely to be Qatar’s star attraction.
“I’ve been building myself up for the competition. I trained in Kenya for three months and also participated in local events in Belgium and Doha,” said Kibet.
“I’m fully fit and hope to do well. A good show here will give me the right impetus ahead of the International Association of Athletics Federations’ Cross-Country Permit Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on December 22,” he said.
The men’s race will be 12km while the women’s race will be held over eight kilometres.
