Increased protection to victims of human trafficking discussed

Doha: National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking held its fourth regular meeting yesterday chaired by Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Committee H E Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri.

The meeting dealt with a number of proposals and projects that would enhance protection and support for victims of human trafficking, support the role of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, and enhance coordination between it and the concerned state authorities in this regard.

It also discussed a number of topics and issues on the committees agenda and took appropriate decisions regarding them, most notably a presentation of the latest developments in the procedures for developing the work mechanism between the official authorities (Ministry of Interior - Public Prosecution - Ministry of Labor), to monitor and follow up cases of human trafficking, and another presentation on the developments of the operation of the nursing home. 

The latest developments of cooperation and coordination with the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for SouthWest Asia and the Arab Region in the State of Qatar were reviewed during the meeting, as well as the latest developments regarding the strengthening of the State of Qatar’s efforts in combating human trafficking by enhancing the rule of law, and discussing a number of projects that would enhance coordination with the competent authorities and the concerned authorities to ensure protection and support for victims of human trafficking and other related issues. 

The meeting was attended by representatives from Labour, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Justice and Public Health Ministries besides Public Prosecution, Government Communications Office GCO and the National Human Rights Committee.
