Israeli security forces arrest a Palestinian (C) during clashes following traditional Friday prayers near the Old City in East Jerusalem on July 25, 2014.

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: Israeli forces detained two young Palestinian men on Friday night, after allegedly assaulting them in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem, a witness told Ma'an.

The witness said that Israeli forces detained Muhammad al-Tawil, 24, and Muhammad al-Bibi, 23, on al-Wadi Street inside the Old City.

Iyad al-Tawil said that Israeli forces assaulted his brother Muhammad and his friend, Muhammad al-Bibi, before detaining them and taking them to the al-Qishla police station.

An Israeli police spokesperson did not respond for comment. It is unknown under what grounds the two men were detained.

Tension between Palestinians and Israeli forces in Jerusalem's Old City have been high during the last several weeks, as Israeli forces have imposed new restrictions on Palestinians attempting to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
