All works on Roads and Infrastructure Project in Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa (package 1) will be completed by the end of first quarter of this year, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has said.

“Roads & Infrastructure Project in Al Kharaitiyat & Izghawa (Package 1), launched early last year, starts asphalt works in zone 1 of the project, with all works scheduled to finish by the end of Q1, 2022,” Ashghal said in a tweet yesterday sharing pictures of ongoing works.

Eng. Abdulla Al Naimi, Manager of Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa projects in Ashghal, said: “Almost all infrastructure network works in zone 1 of the project were finished, while planting and beautification works are underway.”

According to another tweet posted by the Public Works Authority, upon completion of all zones, package 1 will deliver 34km of roads, 34km of pedestrian and cycle paths, 32km of rain and ground water lines, 8km of TSE lines to serve 638 plots. “Ashghal is implementing 4 packages in the area to serve 5,197 plots,” it said.

In June 2020, Ashghal also started works on Roads and Infrastructure Project in Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa (package 2) which is located west of Al Shamal Road.

The project provides services for 1,386 residential plots in Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa areas through the provision of developed infrastructure services and enhanced local streets to improve the traffic flow and provide connectivity to future public facilities that will be established in the area, according to information on the authority’s website.

The project involves developing a roads network with a total length of 45.4km equipped with road safety features and street lighting as well as road signs and marking.

The project will also feature 6,900 car parking bays. Furthermore, the project scope includes a 35-km surface and groundwater drainage network, 22km of treated sewerage effluent (TSE) network along with a 12-km potable water network.

The project is also targeting to achieve 85% of local materials used in the construction works, in line with the Authority’s support to local manufacturers and Ta’heel initiative which was launched in 2017. The Roads and Infrastructure in Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa Project (package 2) is being implemented by UrbaCon and InfraRoad Joint Venture, at a cost of approximately QR499m.
