Doha: The first round of the Qatar Junior Aqua Bike Marathon organised by Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) will be held tomorrow on the Corniche next to Sheraton Hotel.

This is the second time the QMSF is hosting a race for the juniors.

In February this year, Sheikh Nawaf bin Hassan Al Thani, the 12-year-old son of Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) President Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani, led 14 other junior racers at Doha Bay for the first official practice session in their new J Stock Hydro boats.

Sheikh Hassan is keen to see youngsters graduating through the ranks of power boating and it was an emotional moment for the reigning Key West World Champion to see his son lead a group of young racing rivals out to test their J Stock Hydros on a short Doha Bay course.

“It is vital that we continue to nurture and encourage young drivers to take up the sport of power boat racing. This concept will go a long way to getting the wheels in motion. We have this training school now for our youngsters and it is a fantastic opportunity for them to race here in full view of the media and all the drivers and officials who are visiting us from the world of hydroplane racing and H1 Unlimited” said Sheikh Hassan had said.

The overall race length of tomorrow’s race is 10kms and the competitors will need to complete four laps of 2.5km each, informed a QMSF official.

Eleven contestants will be seen in action on the race course.

The following junior bikers will be seen in action Nawaf bin Hassan Al Thani, Jassim Hassan Al Matawaa, Abdullah Saleh Al Obaidli, Tareq Ahmed Mahmoud, Abdulaziz Ahmed Abdul Kareem, Ammar Al Ghazawi, Ghanem Badr Ahmed, Abdullah Walid, Jassim bin Jabr bin Youssef, Ali Mohammed Qassim, and Kenan Ahmed Qassim.
