Doha: Eifrit, owned by Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohamed F N Al Thani, delivered a commanding performance to claim the prestigious Ain Sinan Cup at Al Uqda Racecourse where exhilarating day of racing unfolded.
Trained by Jassim Ghazali, Eifrit staged a strong late surge under jockey Marco Casamento to secure the victory by an impressive five-length margin.
The win also marked Casamento’s second triumph of the day.
Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Bosnia and Herzegovina H E Meshaal bin Ali Al Attiyah crowned the winners.
Earlier, in the Thoroughbred Handicap (65-85) over 2200m, Cei Connah, trained by Debbie Mountain, surged to a four-length victory under jockey Jefferson Smith.
The Local Thoroughbred Handicap (30-50) saw S K Azam claim his win by half a length, with Alberto Sanna aboard for trainer Saeed Mohammed Shafi Al Shafi.
Other winners included Torvar in the Thoroughbred Handicap (0-75), Casamento-ridden Arenteiro in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate, and Suhail Star in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate.
The day's opening race saw Gazwan winning the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate in a three-runner contest under jockey Szczepan Mazur.
