The five-minute fireworks display at Corniche left people awestruck yesterday.

Fireworks display in Qatar occurs only on special occasions like this year’s Eid Festival and National Day.

As heads tilted towards the sky, people started screaming with excitement upon the start of the fireworks. Most tried to capture the best image while some made videos.

Ahmad, an Indian national, said he was waiting for the fireworks since he came at 5pm.

“The next big attraction is the fireworks aside from the balloon parade but unfortunately it was postponed.”

The balloon parade was cancelled yesterday due to bad weather but will be carried out today and tomorrow.

Marivic, from the Philippines, who arrived at 9pm, said: “This is truly amazing because we’ve arrived just in time! My son and husband were delighted. Tomorrow, we’ll be coming early for the balloon parade.”

Tens of thousands of people attended the first day of the Eid Festival yesterday. Qatar Tourism earlier said they were expecting 10,000 to 15,000 daily visitors for the three-day Eid Festival.

Fireworks display will continue today and tomorrow at 9pm.
