Kahramaa Awareness Park has everything a facility may need to create an effective awareness on conservation of electricity and water among children and even adults.
From life-cycle of water to wind energy, solar power to kinetic energy, gas turbine models to water-recycling devices; every subject is there to be taught to children with the help of games, cartoon characters and audio-video aides.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani recently opened the state-of-the-art Kahramaa Awareness Park, an ambitious initiative to promote the culture of conservation of electricity and water among community especially children.
The most interesting part of the park is “Dana Dome”. The Dana Dome is a round cave in which visitors travel on a purpose-built mini-tram and at the end of their few minutes journey they have learnt a lot on life-cycle of a drop of water.
It shows a 3D film about the importance of water, its conservation and recycling. The effects of lights and sounds make the whole trip of dome a memorable one.
In the external yard of the park, wind turbines and solar panels have also been installed which will familiarise kids and adults as well with alternative energy.
“These turbines and panels are also producing electricity which we are using in the facility for various purposes like heating water,” said an official of the park.
He said that external yard of the park had many supportive models of sustainability and renewable energy including wind, solar, and thermal. “It is the first and only facility in Qatar that uses three different energy sources,” the official further told The Peninsula.
After inaugurating the park at a vibrant ceremony, the Prime Minister also toured the facility. The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Minister of Energy and Industry
H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Kahramaa’s President Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari and other dignitaries and guests.
The Kahramaa Awareness Park is a magnificent theme-facility having all features needed to educate kids about importance of conservation of water and electricity. It also teaches the visitors the importance of resources and to be responsible citizens believing in sustainability and environmentally-friendly social practices.
As one enters the main hall of the building, he gets a pleasant welcome from five-foot high energy savers personified as cartoon characters to attract kids. “After this inauguration, students from various independent and private schools will start making trips to the park in the form of groups and then in the second phase the facility will be open for general public,” said an official.
The park also has a CO2 Dome which educates children on harmful effects of pollution and greenhouse effects. In “Kinetic Energy” section of the park, children’s physical activity of paddling illuminates bulbs and makes their video games on hence they learn how electricity could be produced by motion.
Another section of the facility is regarding creating awareness against plastic bottles and harmful effects of plastic materials on our earth and environment thus it develops a sense of dislikeness among children towards reckless use of disposable plastics. With a cafeteria and small-yet-sophisticated library, the park also has an Islamic corner which illustrates the role of Islam in achieving sustainability.
Abu Abdullah, a resident touring the facility minutes after its inauguration termed the park as ‘splendid’ and said: “This is a marvelous effort of Kahramaa and I hope the park will serve its purpose of creating awareness on conservation of electricity and water. Once its gates are opened for general public, I will again visit the park with my family as children have a lot to learn here.”
