DOHA: German rider Hans-Dieter Dreher emerged a credible winner with his ride Colore to clinch the feature competition on the second day of the CH Al Shaqab.
Colore produced a flawless routine at Al Shaqab Arena to finish the 1.50cm class in a time of 65.65 seconds.
Dreher picked up the top prize of €16,000.
Belgian rider Gregory Wathelet continued to impress with Oh d’Eole to finish in second spot.
Oh d’Eole clocked 66.99 seconds as Wathelet got richer by € 12800.
Portuguese star Luciana Diniz, who won the Emir’s Sword Meet in Doha last week, enjoyed another favourable run with Fit For Fun 13 to claim third spot.
Fit For Fun 13, who won the Emir’s Sword Meet, clocked a time of 67.68 seconds as Dinizh picked up €9600.
“I had a great round. I had picked up good momentum and my horse kept jumping nicely. I am very, very happy,” Dreher said.
“This horse has one of the biggest strides. I could let him go all through the course. It was very fast on obstacles 3 and 4, again fast on 7 and 8. We had a very good last turn,” the German said after the competition.
“I had a three-week break. Yesterday, I rode for the first time after three weeks and I was good on the course with my horse and overall I feel very good,” he said.
In the second last competition of the day, experienced British rider Laura Renwick showed her liking for Al Shaqab arena as she guided Rembrandt Blue to a superb win.
Rembrandt Blue clocked a time of 59.89 seconds as Renwick picked up €6250. Second-placed Emanuele Gaudiano lost time and the chance to win the competition with 4 penalties.
Corbanus, ridden by Gaudiano, clocked a time of 64.47 as the Italian took home the second prize of €5000.
Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Alsharbatly - a regular visitor to Qatar for show jumping events - sealed the third spot with Wasabi who managed a time of 65.26 seconds.
The third place was worth €3750.
Earlier in the day, Qatari rider Salman Mohammed A S Al Emadi guided Zorro Z to a superb win in the 145cm class against a top field that included experienced Ali Al Khorafi and Khaled Abdulaziz Al Eid. Al Emadi’s win came in what was part of the QNB Doha Tour series competition.
Zorro Z produced a flawless routine in a time of 26.90 seconds as Al Emadi celebrated an impressive outing that was worth €6250.
Al Khorafi, who runs under the flag of FEI, also managed a flawless routine with Cheril to claim the second prize worth €5000.
Cheril clocked a time of 28.07 in the two-phased run.
Saudi Arabia’s Al Eid remained calm as ever to see Old Chap Tame seal the third spot in an impressive time of 28.16. Al Eid picked up €3750 for his efforts.
