The Vietnamese expatriates community is a closely knit group and the members help each other in time of need. They also do not miss any chance to celebrate special occasion.
Today is one such special day for them as Monday will mark the beginning of new year for them. The expatriates in Qatar will celebrate the new year with making traditional cuisines and visiting each others homes. Another major event for get together is Vietnam’s National Day.
They have ‘Vietnamese Community in Qatar’ organisation for which elections were held in January in which Nguyen Trung Hieu was elected as leader.
“I have been living in Qatar since 2006 with my family, my wife and two sons. I was born in Vietnam. I came to Qatar in 2006, Qatar is my first foreign country I have ever lived outside of Vietnam so that I love Qatar as my country,” Hieu told The Peninsula.
“I have learned Arabic language and I can speak Arabic well. I have read many books about Qataris people and cultures traditions and I have been working with Qataris people for 12 years and Qataris people are very good and friendly. I love this country and I like the people here. Qatar is in my heart for ever,” he added.
He is playing instrumental role in helping newly arrived Vietnamese expatriates in Qatar by providing them crucial information. Many expatriates who are new in Qatar are not aware about rules and regulations. They need to know many things regarding health centre, driving license, and other information.
“We hold meetings of our community members where we discuss issues relating to the community. If there is any problem with our community member we discuss about how to solve the problem. Sometimes we also send help in our home country in case of any major problem there,” he added.
The expatriates in Qatar are employed in construction, hospitality and oil and gas sector.
He added that Qatar is a very safe country for expatriates and they are enjoying here. “Qatar has made extraordinary progress in the past few years and the infrastructure here is world-class. It is a perfect country to be with family as there are so many places to go out with family,” he added.
Their organisation is planning to hold different sports activity this year for its community members. Such activities play crucial role in connecting the members.
“My message to my community member is that we all should abide by the rules and regulations of Qatar and respect country’s culture. Qatar is diverse country as expatriates of several countries are living here. We should work in such a way here that our actions spread positive image of Vietnam,” he concluded.
