Doha: Following an old piece of news being published and shared among the social media about the exemption of Qatari citizens from the Schengen Visa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Spokesperson came out with a clarification.
Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for MoFA Dr. Majed Mohammad Hassan Abdullah Al-Ansari on his Twitter account stated that an old news is being circulated as a new development and the matter is unfounded.
"We would like to point out that developments regarding this issue and any update regarding sponsorship of citizens' affairs abroad are issued through the official accounts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its website," he added.
The last update regarding the citizen's exemption for Schengen visa came on December 2, 2022, when the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament gave it approval to the proposal. The LIBE approval was considered the last one from the part of the European Parliament that shall be followed by deliberations in a tripartite committee representing the Council of the European Union, the Commission and the Parliament to further set the text of Schengen visa exemption agreement between the two parties prior to being signed and implemented.
