Doha: Vehicles parked inside designated parking areas of mosques during non-prayer times will be fined.
General Directorate of Traffic in coordination with mosques, Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Management announced that the illegally parked vehicle will be fined QR300. If the offence is repeated the vehicle will be confiscated.
Traffic patrol vehicles will keep strict vigil, especially during night, as many people use these parking lots for parking their cars overnight. This is in violation of traffic rules and officials said they will take strict action against offenders.
Parking will be allowed only when mosques are open for prayer.
Many busy streets where parking is limited, it is a common sight to see people park their cars in the nearby mosque compound or parking area on a regular basis. This causes great inconvenience for people who are visiting the mosques as parking slots are always packed with vehicles which are parked for long time.
“The fine of QR300 will discourage people from parking illegally and strict vigilance from traffic police will deter people from breaking the rules,” an expat said on his way to the mosque.
