A visitor washes US currency bills with Japanese yen at the spring of Zeniarai Benten Ugafuku Shrine in Kamakura, south of Tokyo, Japan, yesterday. Visitors to the shrine washed money in the hope of seeing an increase of money, property and prosperity in the New Year. It is believed that if money washed in the spring water of the shrine is spent, it will increase many times and come back to the owner. ‘Zeniarai’ means money washing in Japanese.
