Qatari animated web series ‘Kawkabani’ releases first episode

Doha: The episode one of the first Qatar animated web series “Kawkabani” has been released yesterday, coinciding with Eid Al Fitr. The ten-minute episode is entitled “Kawkabani’s Crash.”

This was released on Nefaish Animation YouTube Channel, the animation studio and producer of the web series. Its medium of language is Arabic with English subtitle. The story centres around an alien named Kawkabani who never missed a World Cup before.

The first episode tells Kawkabani’s spaceship which crashed at the desert where three guys who’s having a social gathering in Mesaieed found him. While talking how they will host the alien, suddenly he disappeared. Season one contains five episodes written by Amal Al Shamari, directed by Hossein Heydar. The following episodes will be uploaded at Nefaish Animation YouTube Channel.

Kawkabani is a crazy football fan who is 220 space years old, he comes from Kipler-438B Planet, 740 light years away from the Earth. Meanwhile, other main characters are Faisal who’s a social media celebrity; Khalifa who dreams to be the Steve Jobs of Qatar, and Saad who wanted to be a businessman.

Director Hossein Heydar told The Peninsula that: “The series shows the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the Qatari community through the eyes of an Alien who asks most of the questions that revolve in the mind of any visitor. It also aims to introduce Qatar as a tourist destination, and most importantly, it will also provide opportunities for Qatari talents to showcase their creativity.”

He also revealed that they are also working on the season two of the web series. Kawkabani is sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Doha Film Institute, and Vodafone Qatar.
