Muscat: Tropical cyclone Chapala has started moving towards Yemen, Oman's forecasters have indicated.
"The analysis of Oman's Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre indicated continuous movement of Cyclone Chapala to west towards Yemen without direct impact in Dhofar governorates," according to an advisory by Public Authority for Civil Aviation released on Monday morning.
However they predict thundershowers in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates, according to the "Times of Oman".
The advisory said MHEWC expects advection clouds associated with isolated rain with occasional thundershowers associated with fresh winds as indirect impact over Dhofar and Al Wusta with rough to very rough seas condition with wave height reaching 5 to 7 metres are expected during Monday and Tuesday.
The centre of Chapala is likely to cross areas of coastal areas of Yemen as tropical storm during 24 hours, it was indicated.
The tropical cyclone is centred over Arabian western sea 450 kilometres away from Dhofar.
The surface wind speed around the centre has decreased to 83 to 93 knots. During next 12 hours, Chapala is likely to downgrade to category one.
The Public Authority for Civil Aviation advised the public to take necessary precaution and stay away from low lying areas, avoiding crossing wadis. It also advised the fishermen and sea goers to avoid venture into the sea and follow latest and updated bulletins from the National Multi Hazard Early Warning.
