Doha, Qatar: QIIB participated in the celebration of National Sports Day by taking part in events organised by Qatar Central Bank. This engagement underscores the bank’s dedication to contributing to various initiatives that add value to Qatari society.

Sports, in particular, has positioned Qatar as a global hub and one of the leading sports capitals worldwide.

In the presence of Dr Abdulbasit Ahmad Al Shaibei, QIIB’s CEO, along with senior executives, employees of QIIB actively joined the Central Bank’s Sports Day activities and participated in a sports march along the Doha Corniche.

On the occasion, QIIB encouraged its customers and followers through SMS messages and social media channels to engage in regular physical activities and adopt a healthy lifestyle, emphasising their positive impact on both individuals and society as a whole.

Dr Al Shaibei stated: “This day is an opportunity to reaffirm that sports are for everyone and represent a way of life filled with achievement and well-being.”

He added: “National Sports Day is a moment to renew our collective commitment to serving and building our community in the best possible ways. It is our duty to keep pace with Qatar’s remarkable advancement in sports, as the country has truly become a distinguished sports capital.

“This is evident not only in the world-class tournaments it hosts but also in the state-of-the-art facilities and widespread sporting culture across various regions, which has significantly contributed to promoting sports participation on a large scale.”

The CEO highlighted QIIB’s structured and ongoing support for Qatari sports, noting that the bank has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Qatar Football Association, making it the main sponsor of the Amir Cup and the National Teams for three years starting from February 2024.

This sponsorship aligns with the Third Financial Sector Strategy of the Qatar Central Bank, which emphasises environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and the bank’s role in serving the community in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

He noted: “National Sports Day serves as a reminder of the various dimensions of sports. Besides being a physical activity, sports foster social, humanitarian, and cultural interactions while also having a significant economic impact.”

Al Shaibei stated, “QIIB remains committed to implementing its strategy in corporate governance, social responsibility, and sustainability, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritises human development and well-being to enhance societal progress and participation.”

Employees and executives of QIIB who participated in National Sports Day activities expressed their satisfaction with taking part in this initiative, seeing it as an opportunity to rejuvenate, reinforce societal values such as maintaining health and well-being, and engage in meaningful community contributions.

They emphasised that such events play a key role in fostering cross-cultural collaboration and interaction, transcending language and cultural barriers.
