Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education honored, yesterday, the gifted students who won the ‘My disability is the secret of my talent’ competition in its fourth edition, which was held this year under the slogan ‘World Cup - Qatar 2022.’
Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, distributed certificates to 24 winners in various categories and levels of the competition, such as the Holly Quran, the short story, rhetoric, recitation and artistic creativity, in addition to honouring the arbitrators in these fields.
Director of Special Education and Gifted Care Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Hanadi Mansour Al Khater affirmed the ministry’s keenness to provide equal opportunities for its students with disabilities, in order to highlight their talents and creativity, in line with the Ministry's vision of providing permanent and innovative learning opportunities of high quality to the Qatari community, at the same time achieving empowerment for students with disabilities in terms of highlighting their talents in various fields, and adopting talents capable of creativity in the future to serve the country.
In her speech at the honoring ceremony, Al Khater pointed out that this competition was launched for the first time during the year 2018/2019 as a trial version that proved its success with the talents of students in the fields of writing short stories, memorizing the Quran, recitation, rhetoric and artistic creativity, noting that it is launched annually to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 every year, in celebration of them and in recognition of their role and contributions to society.

She stated that the second edition of the competition carried the slogan ‘My Family,’ believing in the great role of the family and its contribution to refining the talent of her child. The third edition coincided with the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), and its slogan was ‘My Health and Safety’ with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of maintaining health.
She said that the current fourth edition, which witnessed a distinguished participation, was organized under the slogan ‘World Cup - Qatar 2022,’ given that the country is in the process of hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The Director of the Special Education and Gifted Care Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education revealed that there is a proposal to generalize the ‘My Disabilities is the Secret of My Talent’ competition to include all people with disabilities at the level of the GCC Countries, and then at a later stage make it an international competition.
The competition targets all students with motor, hearing, intellectual and visual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders and those who have talent in any field at all educational levels in schools and educational and rehabilitation centers for students with disabilities in government schools.
