NEW YORK: The Buffalo Sabres defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-2 just hours after trading captain Steve Ott and franchise goaltender Ryan Miller to the St Louis Blues.
Matt Moulson, Brian Flynn, Cody Hodgson and Tyler Myers scored for the Sabres, while Jhonas Enroth replaced Miller in goal and made 36 saves.
Patrick Marleau and James Sheppard scored for the Sharks.
Centre Andrew Cogliano scored 3:39 into the game to give the Anaheim Ducks a 1-0 victory over the St Louis Blues.
The Ducks gave coach Bruce Boudreau his 300th career victory in his 496th game, the fastest pace for any NHL coach with at least 300 wins.
Goaltender Jonas Hiller made 18 saves for his 26th win and his fifth shutout.
Anaheim defenceman Cam Fowler began the scoring sequence by breaking up a rush and passing the puck to centre Saku Koivu along the left-wing boards.
Koivu then passed to Cogliano, who beat three Blues and converted a backhander against goalie Brian Elliott.
Justin Fontaine, in his first career shoot-out, was the hero for Minnesota as the right winger beat Vancouver Canucks goaltender Eddie Lack on the Wild’s sixth attempt to lead the team to a 2-1 shoot-out win.
Canucks centre Ryan Kesler opened scoring in the first period but Minnesota made it 1-1 on a power-play, when left winger Zach Parise scored at 14:12 of the first.
Defenceman Nate Guenin’s first goal in nearly two years broke a 1-1 tie early in the third, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2.
