QE Index surges nearly 300 points to inch closer 13000 mark

Doha: Shrugging-off the ongoing geopolitical tensions, the shares in Qatar Stock Exchange staged a strong comeback yesterday. The benchmark QE Index soared nearly 300 points yesterday to inch closer to 13,000 mark. The index jumped 289 points or 2.3 percent to close at 12,948.75 points on Monday. 

The volume of shares traded increased to 502.25 million yesterday from 227.38 million on Sunday and the value of shares increased to QR1.72bn from QR591m on Sunday. The indices of seven sectors ended in green zone today. QSE Total Return Index gained 2.50 percent 25,887.43, QSE Al Rayan Islamic index increased 1.40 percent to 5,281.72 points and QSE All Share Index added 2.81 percent 4,092.32 points.

QNB, Salam International and Investment Holding Group were among the top gainers in yesterday’s trade gaining 6 percent, 5.7 percent and 5.6 percent, respectively. Al Ahli Bank, Qatar Fuel and Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance were among the top losers. 

On Sunday, the QE Index rose 0.2 percent to close at 12,659.5. The Insurance and Transportation indices led the gains. The index rose on the back of buying support from GCC, Arab and foreign shareholders despite selling pressure from Qatari shareholders. 

Investment Holding Group and Mannai Corporation were the top gainers, rising 9.8 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively. Among the top losers, Qatar Cinema & Film Distribution fell 8.8 percent, while QNB Group was down 1.2 percent. 

Volume of shares traded on Sunday fell by 10.1 percent to 227.4m from 252.9m on Thursday. However, as compared to the 30-day moving average of 197.3m, volume for the day was 15.3 percent higher. Investment Holding Group and Salam International Inv Ltd were the most active stocks, contributing 24.6 percent and 20 percent to the total volume, respectively.
