Doha: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in tweet said that the peace agreement signed between US and Taliban yesterday in Doha is “An important milestone in the history of peace in the region.”

In the tweet, he also thanked US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and all parties involved in the talks for their commitment to achieve peace.

“Look forward to continue our close cooperation with America,” Foreign Minister added.

The Minister’s tweet came in response to a tweet by Pompeo in which he thanked Qatar for the support of peace in Afghanistan.

“Left Qatar knowing that the world is a safer place, with solid progress towards a political settlement that will end the war in Afghanistan. Thank you to Qatar and our allies and partners for their support of peace in Afghanistan,” Pompeo tweeted.
