Doha: Educate A Child (EAC), a programme of the Education Above All Foundation (EAA), received a financial contribution from the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) on the concluding day of the H H The Emir 24th International Equestrian Sword Festival.
Launched by H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, EAC aims to trigger significant breakthroughs in providing quality primary education to the 58m children who are currently out of school.
The presentation of the donation was held between Qatar’s two most important horse races, The H H The Emir’s Trophy for Thoroughbreds and the H H The Emir’s Sword for Purebred Arabians — the climax of the eight-day celebration of equestrianism staged under the patronage of the Emir, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Commenting on the contribution made by the QREC, Marcio Barbosa, CEO of EAA, said: “We are grateful for the financial contribution made by the QREC and are thankful for the exposure we have received though this important sporting event. The support by Qatari organisations is very important for the success of EAA’s programmes such as EAC, whose aim is to provide access to quality primary education to 10m out-of-school children by 2016. New forms of support for education are needed right now to bridge the funding gap”.
QREC chairman H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Faleh Al Thani said: “We are delighted to join the many supporters of this important project and congratulate H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser on this valuable initiative.”
“We hope that by making the presentation during our highest profile races of the season we can help to raise awareness of Educate A Child, particularly among the international racing community and our many visitors from all over the world.”
Launched in 2012, EAC aims to trigger significant breakthroughs in providing quality primary education to the
58m children who currently have no access to schooling. Through EAC supported programmes, children overcome barriers
to educational access and retention.
More than 400 international visitors attended the H H The Emir 24th International Equestrian Sword Festival, including members of the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) and the European Conference of Arab Horse Organisations (ECHAO).
