The State of Qatar remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability on both regional and global levels. Grounded in adherence to international laws, respect for human rights, and the principles of peaceful coexistence, Qatar’s foreign policy underscores the necessity of multilateral cooperation to address global challenges. At the core of this vision is Qatar’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause. The State of Qatar has reaffirmed that achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond is unattainable without a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, in line with international legitimacy. It stresses that Palestine is not merely a regional dispute but a fundamental issue affecting global security. During an open debate at the UN Security Council on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance,” Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, H.E. Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Seif Al-Thani, reiterated the nation’s dedication to diplomatic efforts that foster peace and cooperation among nations. Since the onset of the war in Gaza, Qatar has played a pivotal role in mediation efforts that culminated in a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas on January 15, 2025. As it has been reaffirmed by the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during his recent visit to Tehran, Qatar remains hopeful that the successful implementation of this agreement will serve as a foundation for a credible political process, ultimately securing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders. Beyond the Palestinian issue, Qatar continues to champion the need for comprehensive reforms in global governance. As the world marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in 2025, Sheikha Alya underscored that Qatar sees this as a crucial opportunity to reinforce the UN’s founding mission—to prevent future generations from enduring the scourge of war. Strengthening international institutions, upholding international law, and promoting equitable global governance are essential steps toward achieving a just and stable world order. Qatar takes pride in its diplomatic initiatives, which have played a significant role in de-escalating tensions and resolving conflicts in many parties of this region. Its foreign policy is firmly rooted in the principles of dialogue, preventive diplomacy, and peaceful negotiation, reinforcing its dedication to strengthening international peace and security. Furthermore, Qatar strongly opposes double standards in international relations, emphasizing that selective application of international law weakens the credibility of the global legal system. The uniform and fair enforcement of international law must be prioritized to maintain the integrity of the international order.
