Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani took part, along with Their Majesties, Excellencies and Highnesses, leaders and heads of delegations of the Arab countries, in the Extraordinary Arab Summit, which was held yesterday in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt. The "Palestine Summit," held in Cairo yesterday, adopted a comprehensive plan for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. The initiative was endorsed with a commitment to provide financial, material, and political support while urging the international community and financial institutions to contribute. The final statement highlighted the vital role played by the State of Qatar in facilitating the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The reconstruction plan was developed in collaboration with the Palestinian leadership and Arab nations, based on studies by the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program. The initiative aligns with a broader political process aimed at achieving a just and lasting solution for the Palestinian people, ensuring their right to establish their state. The summit reaffirmed the importance of enforcing the ceasefire agreement’s second and third phases, ensuring all parties adhere to their commitments—particularly Israel—to secure a permanent cessation of aggression, a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and unrestricted humanitarian aid access. The statement specifically acknowledged the instrumental role of Qatar and Egypt in cooperation with the administration of US President Donald Trump in mediating the ceasefire and securing the release of hostages and detainees. The resolution signalled the willingness to engage with partners to resume peace negotiations, with the objective of ending Israeli occupation and establishing a Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement categorically rejected any form of forced displacement of Palestinians and denounced policies of ethnic cleansing, starvation, and destruction as violations of international law. It warned that attempts to alter the demographic composition of Palestinian territories or annex land would further destabilise the region and fuel broader conflicts. The resolution underscored the Arab world’s unified stance in supporting Palestinian sovereignty, rejecting any measures that undermine their rights, and advocating for international legal action against violations. Qatar’s pivotal role in brokering the ceasefire and facilitating humanitarian efforts was particularly recognized, highlighting its ongoing commitment to regional stability and conflict resolution.
