Doha: Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with Redington, dealer of Apple in Qatar, announced the recall of Apple AirPods pro sold between October 2019 and October 2020.

The recall is due to a potential malfunction in active noise cancellation, which may lead to a crackling sound that increases in a loud environment.

According to the official Apple website, they have “determined that a small percentage of AirPods Pro may experience sound issues. Affected units were manufactured before October 2020.”

An affected AirPods Pro may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors:

  • Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone
  • Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

“An Apple Authorized Service Provider will service the affected AirPods Pro (left, right or both), free of charge,” the website added.

The recall campaign comes within the framework of the Ministry’s continuous efforts to protect consumers and ensure that dealers follow up on products’ defects and repairs.

The Ministry said that it will coordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and will communicate with customers to ensure that they carried out the necessary repairs.

The Ministry urged all customers to report any violations to its Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department, which processes complaints, inquires and suggestions through the its call center (16001), email ([email protected]) or its social media channels.
