Longines Hathab: Riders look to bag wins as third round gets underway

The third round of the Qatar Equestrian Tour - Longines Hathab – will kick off today with riders eyeing strong show at the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) Indoor Arena.

After yesterday’s vet check, the third round action will get underway, with Small and Medium tours on the card for the opening day. Tomorrow’s busy schedule includes Future Riders, Open and Big tours. 

The Small Tour, which is today’s first event is expected to produce exciting performances from the riders, with 14-year-old Haya Khalid Al Hitmi leading the standings after taking her points tally to 55 with win in the second round, two weeks ago. 

Jassim Al Jaham is trailing the teenager by six points with Saif Mohammed Al Naimi occupying third place in the category after accumulating 45 points.

The Medium Tour is also expected to witness stiff competition for the first spot, with Hussain Saeed Haidan and Khalid Sanad Al Nuaimi standing on top with 48 points apiece. Haidan will be looking to stretch his winning run after topping the last round. 

Third on the table with 45 points, Khalifa Abdulla Al Khaldi will also be hoping to earn points and stay among the top competitors in the Medium Tour.     

Meanwhile, Mohammed Khalifa Albaker will be looking to seal a hat-trick of Big Tour wins when resumes action tomorrow. He is leading the table with 60 points, eight ahead of second-placed Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani. 

Cyrine Cherif, who is third in the standings, will also look for points as she is third with 48 points. 

In the Future Rider category, Mohammed Abdulla Al Marri will be eyeing to consolidate his top spot as he leads the table with 30 points, followed by Kaltham Thani Al Sowaidi with 27 points. After an impressive show in the first two rounds, Abdulaziz Abdulla Alabri has managed to take third position with 25 points.

Team Alfardan are leading the Team event with 60 points followed by Team Ajwad (54), and ExxonMobil (50). The second round saw enthralling competition in the 14-leg Tour.
