DOHA: ‘Doha Engineering Services Company (DESCO)’ has launched eco-friendly waterproofing products designed specially for desert like climate, at competitive prices in Qatar.
“The new products are based on Supershield Crystalline Technology (SCT) which makes it different from other products available in the market,” Pietro Bertone, the Director-General of ‘Supershield Italia’, the partner of DESCO in Qatar told The Peninsula at the pavilion of the company in ‘The Big5 Qatar Exhibition’ held recently at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).
“Supershield has introduced a new ‘Liquid Crystalline Technology (LCT)’ that is a chemical water-based treatment which is added to the concrete-mix as additive or used as a coating and increases the durability of concrete by sealing its pores and capillaries,” said Bertone.
He said that Supershield designs and manufactures a complete range of waterproofing products, including additives, mortars, plasters and paints. Speaking about Supershield Deep Penetrating Crystalline (DPC) and LCT, Bertone said: “Both products are based on Crystalline waterproofing technology for concrete. Both technologies are eco-friendly and LCT is water based.”
He said that DPC technology was developed by Supershield in 1998 and LCT was developed in 2015. Both technologies are being introduced in the Qatar market by Supershield in partnership with DESCO.
Bertone said that the new products are important for buildings in Qatar under a peculiar hot and humid climate near the sea. “Crystalline products are the best solution for protecting concrete when there is humidity,
moisture, water and chemical aggression from salt of the sea. They are penetrating products that waterproof the entire mass of concrete, not only its surface and lasts as long as concrete itself,” said Bertone.
Paul Ittoop, Director of DESCO, said: “Crystalline admixture and our Drybox system for waterproofing construction joints and expansion joints are a cost-saving solution and will not increase the cost of construction. They simply will take the place of other waterproofing systems but are less costly and give a permanent waterproofing.”
“We are just entering the Qatar market, thanks to our partnership with DESCO, we have set up a sales and technical support team to support customers. Supershield products are used since many years in Europe, India, South East Asia and South America. Qatar is our first presence in the Middle East,” Ittoop added.
Premraj Velayudhan, Marketing Manager at DESCO, said: “Other water proofing solutions for concrete waterproofing are bituminous membranes, bentonite sheets, PVC sheets.”
