755 building permits, 399 completion certificates issued in June

Doha: The number of building permits issued in June by municipalities in Qatar stood at 399, an increase of 17 percent compared to 645 permits issued in the previous month, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

The PSA in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality released the 90th issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building completion certificates issued by all municipalities in the country.

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of June 2022, according to their geographical distribution, municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 203 permits, i.e. 27% of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 165 permits, i.e. 22%, followed by Al Wakrah municipality of with 157 permits, i.e.21%, then municipality of Al Da’ayen with 125 permits, i.e.17%. The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 42 permits (6%), Al Khor 33 permits (4%), Al Sheehaniya 17 permits (2%), and finally Al Shammal 13 permits (2%).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 41% (313 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of June 2022, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 54% (404 permits), and finally fencing permits with 5% (38 permits).

By analysing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas’ top the list, accounting for 73% (158 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 18% (40 permits) and apartments buildings by 8% (18 permits).

On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 70% (67 permits), followed by mosques with 10% (10 permits), then industrial buildings e.g., workshops/factories with 9% (9 permits). 

Comparing number of permits issued in June 2022 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general increase of 17%. The increase was noted in most of the municipalities: Al Khor (120%), Al Sheehaniya (70%), Al Da’ayen (33%), Al Shammal (30%), Al Rayyan (22%), Al Wakrah (15%), On the other hand, there was a clear decrease in the municipality of Umm Slal (11%), Al Doha (1%).
