The Ambassador of Peru to Qatar, Jose Benzaquen, has said that Peruvian expatriates working in Qatar are living in very safe and comfortable conditions.
Addressing a group of Peruvian expatriates gathered at the Embassy of Peru to celebrate the National Day of Peru on Sunday (July 28), Ambassador Benzaquen appreciated the hospitality of Qatar, further saying that ties between both the countries were strengthening with the passage of time.
The Peru National Day reception which was held at the Embassy was attended by a number of Peruvian professionals working in Qatar particularly Qatar Airways.
Talking to The Peninsula, the Ambassador said that Peru and Qatar shared same ambitions regarding development.
“The Peruvian community here is serving Qatar and most of the expatriates are professionals. Today, they are gathered here to celebrate the National Day of Peru. They are thankful to the government of Qatar for providing them with an opportunity to work here.”
He said that all members of the Peruvian community living in Qatar were happy and comfortable. “They will continue with the same spirit for the progress of both the countries,” he added.
On bilateral ties, Ambassador Benzaquen said that they covered all fields. “Along other areas like business and trade, we are expanding our relations and cooperation in the area of sports.”
He said that two Peruvian athletes who had recently won gold in marathon would take part in IAAF World Athletics Championships, Doha 2019 to be held in September this year.
The Ambassador said that like Qatar, Peru had a priority focus on health, education, and sports. “Peru’s economy is growing rapidly opening new avenues of cooperation between the two countries.”
Praising Qatar’s role in international diplomacy, the Peruvian Ambassador said that his job as a diplomat in Qatar was like a challenge. “Qatar has a great place not only in regional system but also international affairs.” A Peruvian expatriate, Cecilia Castro, who is living in Qatar for the last sixteen years termed her experience of residing and working in Qatar as excellent. Castro who works as a tour guide and event manger said that Qatar was a great country for expatriates with a lot of opportunities to excel. “Qatar is also a great place to start a business,” she said, adding that Peruvian community was excited for 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
According to her, Peru and Qatar could expand bilateral cooperation in various fields including tourism, energy, sports, and agriculture.
