Doha: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has imposed a temporary ban on imported shrimp from India due to them being infected with a “white spot virus”, Al Arabiya reported.

According to the report, the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture ordered the analysis of several samples of frozen shrimp imported from India, which were found to be positive for White Spot Syndrome Virus.

The SFDA added that, following the findings, it had decided to impose a temporary ban on importing shrimp from India until the Indian side provides sufficient guarantees to ensure the safety of products exported to Saudi Arabia.

The authority also stated that it wanted to ensure that the white spot syndrome virus does not transmit to the fisheries in Saudi Arabia before lifting the ban.
