Doha: Weather charts indicate that Qatar will be hit by a cold wave during the weekend.
This cold spell is due to the extension of a Siberian high pressure system accompanied with strong northwesterly winds during the period between Thursday dawn and Sunday (February 2-5).
Temperatures are expected to drop 3 to 6 degrees below average with maximums in Doha ranging between 17°C to 20°C and minimums between 10°C to 13°C.
Minimum temperatures are expected to drop below 7°C in southern and open areas with a greater feeling of cold due to windy conditions.
Wind speeds are expected to range between 15 to 28 knots inland (with 35 knots wind gusts at times) and visibility may drop below 2km in some areas due to dust.
Winds are expected to reach 35 kt offshore with waves rising to more than 15 Ft in the north.
In addition, cloud amounts expected to increase gradually from Wednesday evening to Thursday with a chance of scattered rain.
Qatar Meteorology Department has urged all residents to be cautious and to avoid sea activities during this period.
