Ministry stresses importance of qualification courses for imams

Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs stressed the importance of qualification courses for imams, muezzins and preachers in order to develop their skills and enrich their knowledge. 

The Ministry trained and qualified 1,052 imams, preachers, muezzins and legal muftis in its training programmes implemented this year 

This came in a ceremony yesterday organised by the Ministry, represented by the Department of Religious Call and Guidance, in order to honour the outstanding imams, muezzins and preachers who passed the qualification courses offered by the Ministry in 2021.

The Director of the Department of Religious Call and Guidance at the Ministry Mal Allah Abdulrahman Al Jaber said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the department aims to develop the knowledge and skills of imams, muezzins and preachers in Islamic sciences, as it falls within the programmes and activities of the Department of Da’wah and Islamic Studies, which seeks to emphasize the status of Islamic science.

Al Jaber explained that the Ministry trained and qualified 1,052 imams, preachers, muezzins and legal muftis in its training programmes implemented this year included 44 various training courses, amounting to 786 training hours.

He noted that there will be future cooperation with the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University to organise joint training programmes and pointed out that the Ministry sends Qatari students to study at Qatar University.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs attaches great importance to programmes for developing imams, muezzins and preachers in the fields of advocacy and Islamic sciences and believe in their active role in upgrading the values and morals of members of Qatari society, said Al Jaber. 

For his part, the Head of the Department of Da’wah and Islamic Studies of the Ministry Dr. Nawaf Al Otaibi told the QNA that the department is keen to choose the current and future training curricula and programmes in its training programmes with great care in accordance with a comprehensive and moderate Islamic approach. 

He is also keen on selecting teachers for these subjects from sheikhs and jurists specialised in Sharia and language sciences, in an effort to develop the performance and skills of trainees. Each group of trainees has an administrative path to introduce their rights and administrative and job duties, a skill path in dealing with people, a legal path in the urgent legal matters they need to perform their job, and a knowledge path.
