Doha: With over 100 shows per day in Qatar, Indian movie 2.0 starring Tamil superstar Rajnikanth and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has cinemas getting sold out including the first show at 11:15 am.
The movie released in three Indian languages -- Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu - has around 130 odd shows only on Friday in 2D and 3D. Asian Town alone has 23 shows in Tamil and Hindi per day with another 12 shows in 3D. An employee at Asian Town said that the response is huge. "For the morning two shows, cinemas were full and sold out," he said.
Roxy Cinemas has 15 shows of which 9 are in Tamil, 2 in Telugu and 4 in Hindi. Staff at Roxy said that they already have received good booking and expecting it to increase in the evening and on Friday, adding that the Tamil one has a bigger crowd than the other languages.
The movie 2.0 is about an ornithologist who commits suicide and returns as fifth force (Pakshiraja - roughly translates to bird king) to wreak vengeance on mankind for harming birds with mobile phone radiation. The upgraded version of Chitti, the humanoid robot from the prequel to 2.0, Robot in Hindi and Endhiran in Tamil, is brought back to fight the Pakshiraja for the human good.
The film has received mixed reviews from critics with some saying it has a weak script but it manages to keep the interest going with state-of-the-art VFX effects.
