There are a lot of exciting events happening in Qatar from Ajyal Film Festival to a petting zoo and many more throughout the week.If you know of any other events happening around Qatar please share in the comments section.

The Ajyal Film Festival

Eighty-one films from 36 countries are participating in the six-day festival set to inspire audiences and stimulate discussions about real and relevant issues that affect them. Drawn from distinctive milieus from around the world, the diverse programme consists of 23 features and 58 shorts, including 24 from the Arab World and 44 by women filmmakers.

The films that will be screened are Maya the bee, The Man who Stole Banksy, Last Stop is the Moon, Inanimate,  I Am Not My Father and many more.

This year, public screenings will also be held at Novo Cinemas in the Pearl in addition to Katara.

29th Doha International Book Fair

About 30 countries are participating in the 29th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, which reflects the large participation of Arab and foreign countries.

In the framework of the Qatar-Russia Year of Culture 2018, Russia will be the Guest of Honour at the fair. Visitors will know more about Russian literature through a presentation of the most prominent publishers of Russian book.

The fair also includes around 101,992 titles in Arabic and 17, 261 titles in other foreign languages, bringing the total Arab and foreign languages titles to 119, 253. Also, there will be an excellent participation from Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and embassies of US, France, Korea and Palestine.

Spain will participate for the first time in the exhibition this year. The number of publishers in this year’s fair from Lebanon, Jordan, and Morocco has increased. The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic will also participate for the first time in the fair.

World’s longest Lego bridge to be displayed at QNL

A 33-meter-long suspension bridge, built from more than 260,000 Lego bricks, will be on display at Qatar National Library. First exhibited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) – Bridge Engineering, it is the longest such structure in the world.

The bridge is half-built and over the following week, visitors will be able to help assemble the bridge, with engineers providing the necessary instruction. Experts from the Bright Bricks and ICE will also hold workshops for students visiting the Library on school tours.

Funny Pirates Show

The Pearl-Qatar is hosting a Pirates Show for the residents of Qatar. Anyone interested to attend the event should arrive 30 minutes before the show starts and the event is for free.

MINBER Exhibition

MINBER is a collection of artworks created by 15 junior and senior year students from the painting and printmaking program at VCUarts Qatar.

QF Art Trail Tour

Qatar Foundation Art Trail will give an exclusive tour of the art exhibition “Imaginative Journey” to the visitors at the Doha Book Fair, where the artists will meet the audience, and a curated tour will be given by the artists and the Qatar Foundation art specialist.

The tour will be led by artists Sebastian Betancur-Montoya, Khalifa Al-Obaidly, Maryam Al-Homaid, Khalifa Almarri, Paul Valentine and the exhibition curator Layla Ibrahim Bacha.

An Evening Of Classical And Traditional Russian Music

In honour of the Qatar-Russia Year of Culture, renowned Russian pianist Nina Ivanova and Olga Protopopova will perform in Qatar National Library.

The program will be opened with the Qatar National Anthem: ‘As-Salam al-Amiri’ and 'State Anthem of the Russian Federation’.

The event will go as follows, renowned Russian pianist Nina Ivanova will perform pieces by Tchaikovsky, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. Olga Protopopova who will lead the Kamerton choir will perform Russian folk songs by I. Matvienko, M.Blanter and E. Krylatov.

Big Red Barn Petting Zoo at Sheraton

A petting zoo is being hosted by Sheraton Hotel, which features a combination of domestic and some wild animals. Children will get to pet, feed and interact with the animals. There will be many activities for kids such as pony ride, boncy castle, face painting, live scarecrow characters, live performances and many more.

Food stations will also be available at the venue.

The price of the ticket is QR 80 for adults and kids, children below the age of two will be admitted for free and the tickets can be purchased at the event.

Red Rhino Cup 2018

Red Rhino Cup 2018  is organised by the Indonesian Football Association in Qatar (IFQ) – a non-profit organisation dedicated to facilitating access to Indonesian football for all fans in Qatar.

Open to all juniors in the U6 to U16 categories, competition matches will be streamed live from the field on Red Rhino Football Club’s Facebook and Youtube pages for all to enjoy. There will be a lot of exciting activities for all the family including games, photo competitions and traditional Indonesian dance shows.
