Oakland, United States: Australian forward Andrew Bogut, who was already wearing a mask to protect a broken nose, suffered a concussion in Golden State's NBA season opener on Tuesday.

Doctors on Wednesday diagnosed the 30-year-old from Melbourne with a concussion after he bumped heads with New Orleans Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham in a 111-95 Warrior win.

The 2.13 metre veteran received three stitches under his eye to close a cut after the collision with Cunningham while going for a rebound on a missed shot by Warriors guard Stephen Curry in the third quarter.

The Warriors didn't say when Bogut is expected to return, but he'll likely miss a trip to play the Houston Rockets on Friday and the Pelicans on Saturday in New Orleans.

"Obviously, we're a much better team with him on the floor," Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said. "But there's nothing that worrying about it can help the situation."

Bogut shot six-of-six from the field for 12 points and tallied five rebounds on Tuesday. He also added five assists and two blocked shots in the season opening win for the defending NBA champs.
