With the beginning of new academic year today and in a bid to address issue of possible traffic jams, the General Directorate of Traffic is set to deploy more traffic patrols.
More traffic vehicles will be deployed around the important intersections and roundabouts that witness traffic congestion during morning rush hours, said Colonel Mohamed Radi Al Hajri, director of the Awareness and Information Department at the General Directorate of Traffic.
He also said that the department has prepared a plan to intensify traffic patrols as well as holding many awareness activities with the aim of providing traffic safety guidelines for all age groups. Colonel Al Hajri, pointed out that the traffic patrols will be present at important intersections and roundabouts that witness traffic jam during the rush hours. “Traffic motorcycles will be participating in this plan.”
“Traffic patrols are also intensifying their presence around schools, especially those located in internal residential areas, with the aim of facilitating traffic, helping parents and to ensure safe movement of students,” Al Hajri said while speaking to Qatar TV recently.
He pointed out that the awareness drive will continue during the academic year with a focus on preparatory and secondary schools through awareness lectures given by officers and experts.
“We held training courses for security guards in schools to regulate traffic in case of traffic jams at the time of entering and leaving schools,” he noted.
Al Hajri indicated that these programmes always take into account the precautionary measures approved by the concerned authorities. “Parents, teachers, school bus drivers and supervisors, and all those involved in the educational process are participating in these training programmes,” he said.
