Doha: Wa'hab is now synonymous with food wastage reduction and redistribution of surplus food in Qatar. Their 'Wa'hab Iftar Drive' is a hit equally among expats and locals. And taking another step towards their volunteering initiatives, the group has tied up with various corporate houses to donate Eid Gift Boxes.

Wa'hab began this Ramadan with an Iftar drive where residents could sponsor Iftar meal each costing QR 10. Currently ongoing, the drive is in partnership with Malabar Live Restaurant and Grills. They have already distributed over 2,000 meals in remote locations such as Abu Nakhlaq and expecting the numbers to go up by end of next week.

The group has come a long way since its inception in 2016 when the aim was to deliver surplus food to those in need. "Every Ramadan we distribute meal to the less privileged in Qatar. Our volunteers usually head to far off locations where there is a requirement for Iftar meal," said the entrepreneur behind this initiative Wardah Mamukoya. She added that the group is working on three initiatives this Ramadan.

Apart from the Iftar drive, they also have a Kindness in a Box initiative where non-perishable food are collected from schools. "We have conducted drives in schools such a Netwon, Doha English, RGS Guildford, and three other schools. We have received excellent support from the parents and staff at these schools," said Wardah.

Their next initiative is at the end of Ramadan, where EID gift boxes will be distributed among the communities and other needy during the Eid Al Fitr holidays. "We are in talks with various companies to sponsor and package EID gift boxes which will include products such as shaving items and soap, etc," she said.

The dedication of these food heroes is bringing joy to the society and they hope that their platform becomes stepping stone to further larger good.

Donations can be made directly at the Malabar Live Restaurant or can be made online through QNB.
