Traffic violations down 49%; 5,862 new vehicles registered

Doha: Qatar has achieved positive results when it comes to traffic safety over the past years, thanks to the measures taken by the government. 

The number of traffic violations in Qatar fell significantly during February 2023, showing an increase in road safety, according to the official data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). 

Total traffic violations declined by 49.1 percent to 104,992 in February, compared to 206,258 in the same month last year. They also fell on a monthly basis by 22.7 percent compared to January 2023 when 135,839 violations were recorded. 

Among the traffic violations, the highest fall was seen in the category of speed limit violations. When compared on a yearly basis, as many as 53,314 cases of violations of speed limit were registered in February this year, which fell by 65.2 percent to 63,779 on a year-on-year basis.

On a month-on-month basis, the violations stood at 86,495 in January 2023 which showed a decline by 38.4 percent.

The violations of traffic signs stood at 954 in February this year, registering a fall of 77.2 percent when compared to same month last year. Similarly, in

January 2023 it reached 2,472, recording a decline of 61.4 percent month-on-month. 

The guidelines and alarm signal violations saw a rise of 15 percent and 53.3 percent year-on-year and month-on-month respectively during the review period. 

Metallic plates violations fell by 17.1 percent; overtaking violations reduced by 33.5 percent; driving violations fell by 40.2 percent; and traffic movement violations fell by 18.5 percent.

Out of the total traffic violations registered in February, the speed limit violation (radar) accounted for 60 percent, while stand and wait rules and obligations violations were 25 percent and 15 percent in others category. The total number of new vehicles registered in February was 5,862.

The figure showed a monthly decrease of 8.2 percent and showed an annual decrease of 15.0 percent. 

The General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) celebrated the 35th Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) Traffic Week, March 5-11, under the theme of 'your life is a trust'.

It highlighted the awareness of the importance of traffic safety, and the need to raise awareness of traffic rules and laws. The Ministry has reminded the public to adhere to traffic rules to ensure road safety and reduce accidents.

GCC Traffic Week celebrations included a number of events and activities at driving schools and General Directorate of Traffic partners’ locations, in coordination with a number of schools to hold a series of meetings and seminars to better inform new drivers on safe driving, traffic law, and the most common traffic violations.
