DOHA: The College of Law and Public Policy (CLPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is set to receive a new batch of students for its flagship Juris Doctor programme.
The admissions process is designed to attract students of the highest calibre and the fast-approaching deadline is on April 1. “CLPP is a world-class provider of legal education with an international reputation for quality and innovation in teaching and research. Our flagship Juris Doctor programme is the first graduate law degree programme of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region. We enroll up to 20 students per year and our current enrolment across all three years of the programme is around 40 students,” Professor Clinton Francis (pictured), Dean at the CLPP, told The Peninsula.
The Juris Doctor (JD) programme at the HBKU has been created through a strategic partnership with Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. The JD program differs from an undergraduate law degree in that it targets individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree, which can be in any subject (including law).
The JD’s curriculum is comparable with the best of those offered internationally and equips its graduates with a high level of legal knowledge, thereby enabling them to make the most of a wide range of career options in the public and private sectors, multinational institutions, and in academia.

The present the JD program has between 65-70 percent Qatari student enrollment rates across all three years of the program. The students come from a variety of professional backgrounds and that enriches the academic experience within the college.
As part of the admission process, prospective students are asked to complete an online application, send academic transcripts demonstrating the completion of their undergraduate studies with a strong academic record from a recognized institution, as well as official copies of standardized test results.
Among the requirements are two letters of recommendation, a personal statement of interest, as well as other supporting documents.
