Qatar will host a tribute concert to famous Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, aimed at raising funds to support Syrian refugees in Jordan.
The concert ‘Brave New World’ is a message of solidarity and a symbolic partnership between Italy and Qatar joining to support displaced Syrian families and children currently living in refugee camps in Jordan, said organisers yesterday.
The first-of-its-kind concert in the Middle East will feature Italian, local, regional and international artistes and a blend of Western and Arabic music at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) on February 1, 2018.
It will be also part of commemorations of the 10th death anniversary of Pavarotti, who is known as one of the finest tenors of the 20th century.
The Pavarotti Foundation together with Rosso Italiano and the Italian Embassy in Doha yesterday launched ‘Brave New World’ at St Regis Hotel.

Also present were COO of Rosso Italiano, Dana Al Fardan, Composor of the song ‘Brave New World’, Laura Somma, Managing Director, Co-founder of Rosso Italiano & Executive Producer of Brave New World, who led this project and secured commitments from all partners between Italy and Qatar, Abdulrahman Al Ajail, Deputy Director events and Marketing, QNCC and Deep Kumar, Director Sales at St.Regies Hotel were present at the event.
De Sanctis said, “It is a real privilege to welcome the Pavarotti Foundation here in Doha and to be part of this challenging project to help displaced Syrian people recover from the on-going conflict. Italy is a strong advocate for education and an active supporter of the Syrian cause. The arts and Opera are uniting us for a good cause. Brave New World is a unique opportunity for all of us to do our part and to stand up for Syrian refugees.”
Local composer Dana has written and composed the song ‘Brave New World’ for the cause of Syrian refugees. The song originally written in English, the orchestration includes Arabic instrumentation as well. An Arabic version of the song too will be performed at the concert, according to Dana. Also local artists Ali Abdulsattar and Fahad Al Kubaisi will be contributing to the concert.
The logo of the concert illustrates and embodies the courage to peruse a new world. It creates a message with solidarity with families and children, living through years of suffering as refugees of the Syrian conflict. The logo is deliberately composed with a character that has cuts and flows illustrating the difficult situation faced by refuges.
Nicoletta said, “Luciano Pavarotti has always encouraged and supported young people around the world. My husband believed in power of arts and culture to bring peace to the world and to unite nations and people. Brave New World truly encapsulates this idea by bringing this incredible fusion of music from the West and the Arab World. The Pavarotti Foundation is proud to partner with Rosso Italiano and Italian Embassy in Qatar. Brave New World is a hope for a better tomorrow, a message of optimism for Syrian people and a call to action to join us on this journey.”
The funds raised during Brave New World will be used to support existing psycho-social education programmes for children and families living in refugee camps in Jordan, under the umbrella of Italian NGO Vento di Terra. In addition to providing psychological support to help the refugees overcome the trauma from the war, a wide variety of educational and creative activities will be provided.
“Qatar is a nation extending humanitarian work and we are proud to be host the concert here. This is just the beginning of the journey. This concert is a clear and strong message to give hope and optimism to Syrian refugees. We will do our best to give them their dignity and help as much as we can,” said Somma.
