QE Index shed 19.34 points this week

DOHA: Qatar Exchange (QE) Index lost 19.34 points or 0.22 percent during this week to close at 8,586.26 points.

During the week, trading value increased by 37.39 percent to reach QR1.35bn compared to QR987m. Trading volume increased by 22.97 percent to reach nearly 27m shares as against nearly 22m shares, while the number of transactions rose by 4.04 percent, to reach 15,086 transactions as compared to last week’s 14,500 transactions.

Market capitalisation rose by 0.24 percent to reach QR471bn as compared to QR470bn at the end of the previous week.

The banks and financial services sector led trading value during this week, accounting for 24.92 percent of the total trading value, followed by the industrial sector, which accounted for 23.65 percent.

The trading volume was led by the transportation sector, which accounted for 26.49 percent of the total volume. This was followed by banks and financial services, which accounted for 24.23 percent. The real estate sector ranked third, accounting for 17.53 percent followed by the Industrials sector.

The banks and financial services sector led trading number of transactions during this week, accounting for 23.66 percent of the total number of transactions, followed by industrials sector, which accounted for 19.46 percent. 

The consumer goods and services sector ranked third, accounting for 18.20 percent followed by the transportation sector with 15.75 percent.

A total of 17 companies of the 42 listed companies ended this week higher, while 23 fell and 2 remain unchanged.

The T-Bill 9m 03122013 led trading value during this week accounting for 14.63 percent of the total trading value, followed by Industries Qatar, which accounted for 14.14 percent. The QNB ranked third, accounting for 10.56 percent.

The bourse was down 20.41 points or 0.24 percent to 8,586.26 points yesterday from the previous closing of 8,606.67 points. 

The volume of shares traded increased to over 6m from Wednesday’s 5.7m. Among the top losers were Qatar Electricity and Water (QEWS), Qatar Telecom, Gulf International and Doha Bank. QEWS dropped 3.48 percent to QR138.50 while Qatar Telecom and Gulf International lost 1.04 percent to QR114.00 and 1.41 percent to QR35.05 respectively. Doha Bank was down 0.32 percent to QR47.05. 

The Qatar banking and financial sector yesterday lost 0.16 points while the insurance sector was up 1.38 points. The Qatar industrial sector added 0.38 points and the Services sector gained 1.13 points.

The Peninsula
